How to change your Apple Account region to Kazakhstan
The account region decides which App Store prices you see and which gift cards your balance accepts. A Kazakhstan Apple Gift Card can only be redeemed on an Apple Account with the Kazakhstan region - that is Apple’s own restriction and there is no way around it.
An Apple Account is the former Apple ID: Apple renamed it in 2024, and the old name still shows up in search and in the menus of older iOS versions. The steps below are the same either way.
Apple does allow changing the account country, with conditions. Below is what to check in advance and how to get through the change without surprises.
What to check first
Apple only lets a "clean" account change its country. Before you start:
- Spend the remaining balance down to zero - it cannot move to another country.
- Cancel active subscriptions and wait until the paid period ends.
- Wait for pending purchases, refunds and pre-orders to finish.
- If you are in Family Sharing, note that Apple restricts country changes for group members.
Changing the country on iPhone or iPad
- 1Open Settings and tap your name at the top.
- 2Go to the media and purchases section and open the account settings.
- 3Find "Country/Region" and choose "Change Country or Region".
- 4Pick "Kazakhstan" and accept the terms.
- 5Set the payment method to "None" - the balance is topped up with gift cards from here on - and fill in a billing address in Kazakhstan.
What details Apple asks for
The payment method can stay "None" during the change, so no bank card is needed at all and the balance is topped up with gift cards. Apple still asks for a billing address - it is a required part of the form.
The address fields are: first and last name, street and building, city, region, postal code and phone. A Kazakhstan postal code has six digits: Almaty codes start with 050, Astana with 010, Shymkent with 160. The phone is written with the +7 country code and a Kazakhstan mobile prefix such as 700, 701, 747 or 771.
The details have to be yours. Apple does not verify them against documents while you change the region, but it ties purchases to them, and a mismatch surfaces later as a refusal at checkout. The guide on blocked purchases explains what to do when that happens.
If the country option is missing
That happens when money is left on the balance or a subscription is still active - Apple hides the option until the conditions are met. Go through the checklist above once more.
The other route is a new Apple Account with Kazakhstan picked right at sign-up. It is free, and each account keeps its own purchases and subscriptions.
What comes next
Once the account region is Kazakhstan, all that is left is topping up the balance: buy a card of the value you need, the code arrives by email within a minute, and redeeming takes another minute.
